At the beginning of 2018, with our reach and reputation in mind, we gave ourselves three simple but ambitious New Year’s resolutions. Localize stuff. Think differently. Be awesome.

So, looking back on a year of achievements, how did we do? After an action-packed twelve months we’re delighted to say we resoundingly hit the mark – with one or two fantastic surprises along the way.

Now, before delving into our stand-out moments, we have to give a massive thank you to all our amazing clients, translators, partners and friends. It's been an awesome year and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Ready for a recap? Here’s how we smashed our resolutions to help our clients in 2018 and beyond.

Expanding into the Middle East

ZOO's Dubai facility opened its doors as part of our ambitious expansion in the Middle East to offer dubbing, subtitling and media services for Arabic.

Elsewhere, our cloud dubbing facilities in LA are now bigger and better than ever – housing some of the world's leading localization professionals. European clients will be glad to hear that we’re also planning to expand our central London operations in 2019. Stay tuned and schedule a pop by!

More than five thousand freelancers connected to ZOO

Bienvenue! Benvenuti! Willkommen! ようこそ!

This year we more than doubled our network to over 5,000 dubbing artists, creative directors and translators, each connected to us in the cloud – offering more language options and a greater choice of talent for TV and movie content owners.

Cloud dubbing action-1-1

Our network of worldwide talent is the backbone of democratizing dubbing – meaning content owners can choose where and how dubbing takes place. For the first time, the best talent from all around the world is able to play their part.

So, a warm welcome to all the fresh faces (and voices) helping us to achieve truly awesome things.

Four awesome innovations released

As ever, ZOO's R&D team has been coding and creating like crazy this year. Our dedicated developers are always ready to bring new innovations to life – thinking up more efficient ways to help our clients reach audiences everywhere.

This year we launched four localization innovations in time for NAB, Las Vegas and IBC, Amsterdam 2018:

Award-winning localization work

Shameless brag, but we're getting pretty good at posing on podiums. In 2018, ZOO continued to gain industry recognition with our technology-powered approach to localization and digital distribution.

'Cloud dubbing' gained further accolade as the TV and movie industry’s first cloud-powered dubbing service, while Team ZOO also received kudos for our overall business growth and performance.

Two dubbing stars joined us from Disney

ZOO is always on the hunt for the very best localization talent around the globe – giving our clients the quality their content deserves. In 2018, we were pleased to pull off two high-profile coups in the world of dubbing.

We warmly welcomed Raul Aldana and Norie Negishi to lead our dubbing teams for Latin America and our operations for Asia respectively.

Mapi Lucchesi also bolstered our European dubbing network with over 25 years’ experience working with adapters, directors and voice artists around the world – find out what she had to say about the game-changing rise of cloud dubbing.

ZOO named as localization leader for growth

Thanks to everyone who has worked with and supported ZOO in 2018, we're delighted to say that a non-stop year is most-definitely paying off, with the numbers to back us up.

In an industry report entitled 'The Nimdzi 100', the eponymous researchers published a two-year growth of 143% for ZOO.

As proof that ambitious ideas, hard work and the power of awesomeness don't go unnoticed, ZOO was named as the top organic growth leader in the global language services industry.

Here's to an equally ambitious 2019!
